What are WhatsApp Message Templates (vs Automation Templates)?
WhatsApp Message Templates are Meta-approved WhatsApp formats. Automation Templates are reusable Instagram comment automations in Templates.
CommentLink uses the word “templates” in two different products. Mixing them up causes the wrong setup path.
Instagram Automation Templates
- Sidebar label: Templates
- Purpose: reusable Instagram comment-to-DM configs for many Posts & Reels
- Actions: Create, attach media, Detach, Detach All, Pause, Resume, Manage Template
- Not submitted to Meta for WhatsApp approval
WhatsApp Message Templates
- Meta-approved message formats for WhatsApp Business conversations
- Used when messaging outside the WhatsApp customer care window (and for some outbound use cases)
- Must be APPROVED in Meta before send
- Not the same as attaching Posts & Reels in Templates
