How to Write a Page Title and Meta Description for Your Bio Page

Your link in bio meta description and page title are two short pieces of text, and most people leave them blank or fill them in without thinking. Visitors from Instagram never see them. But anyone who finds your page in a search or receives it in a message does, so these two lines often act as your introduction. They take ten minutes to write, and rarely need changing.

What these two fields do

Field Where it appears What it should do
Page title Browser tab, search results, shared-link cards Say who you are and what you do
Meta description Sometimes in search results and shared-link cards Say what someone will find here

They’re not magic. Google says it aims for descriptive, concise titles, and warns against vague or repeated text. Its snippet documentation adds that the text under a result is mostly drawn from the page itself, with your description used on some occasions. So Google may show something else. You’re improving the odds, and you’re controlling how your link appears on platforms that use them.

Title templates

Most page titles work well with one of these patterns.

Pattern Example (made up)
Name, what you do Asha Rao, Wedding Photographer
Name, what you do, where Asha Rao, Wedding Photographer in Pune
Brand, what you sell Sunmill Candles, Handmade Soy Candles
Name, who you help Dev Kapoor, Fitness Coach for New Parents
Brand, service, area Green Hands, Garden Care in South Delhi
Event, date, place Riverside Market, 12 June, Nashik

Use your real name or brand first, because that’s what people search for. Avoid a title that just says “Links”, “Home”, “Link in bio” or “Welcome to my page”.

Description templates

Say what’s on the page, then add a detail that helps.

For creators

Free editing presets, my camera gear list and my latest videos. Made for beginner photographers.

For local businesses

Book a table, see today’s menu or find us near MG Road. Open every day except Monday.

For services

Portrait and wedding photography across Maharashtra. See recent work, check packages or send an enquiry.

For shops

Small-batch soy candles, shipped across India. See the spring range, read the care guide or ask a question.

For events

Riverside Market returns on 12 June. See stall lists, get directions and sign up for updates.

Keep promises to what’s actually on the page. If it says “book a table”, there should be a working booking link.

Length guidance

Limits and display lengths are different things.

BioFlow allows a title of up to 120 characters and a description of up to 300 characters. That’s the maximum the fields accept, not a target. The Page Audit also warns you when a title or description looks too short or too long, which is a helpful guide.

Search results don’t show a fixed number of characters. Display depends on the device and the width of the text. So:

  • Title: put the important words first, and keep it short enough to read at a glance. If it gets cut off, your name should still be visible.
  • Description: say the main thing in the first sentence, and let the rest be a bonus.

Don’t aim for an exact character count you’ve read about somewhere. Read it aloud, and if it sounds natural and clear, it’s probably fine.

Writing for the person, not the bot

It’s tempting to pack in every keyword you can think of. Please don’t.

Stuffed (avoid):

Photographer Pune, wedding photographer Pune, best wedding photography Pune, photographer near me

Natural:

Wedding and portrait photography in Pune. See recent work and check available dates.

The second one says more, and it’s what someone would want to read. Google’s guidance warns against keyword stuffing in title text, and readers tend to dislike it too.

Other things to avoid:

  • Claims you can’t support, like “India’s number one” or “guaranteed results”.
  • Prices and dates that will expire, unless you’ll update them.
  • All capitals, and rows of emoji.
  • Instructions meant for Instagram, such as “tap below”, since this text appears elsewhere.
  • The same text in both fields. Use the description to add something.

If you’re a personal brand, make sure your title matches what you call yourself elsewhere, as we discuss in link in bio for personal brands. Consistency also helps with sharing across channels, as covered in our cross-platform guide.

Using the Page Audit to check

BioFlow’s Page Audit looks at the last saved version of your page. For these fields, it checks for:

  • A missing, short or long title.
  • A missing, short or long description.
  • A missing or invalid sharing image.
  • Noindex being turned on.

It says clearly that it isn’t a ranking score. It’s a check for setup problems, and passing it doesn’t mean your page will appear in search results. Use it after you’ve written your text, and remember to save your page first.

The audit can’t judge whether your text is any good. For that, ask a friend to read just the two lines and tell you what they think your page offers.

After that, add a sharing image. And for what search can and can’t do for you, read link in bio SEO. You’ll find these settings alongside others on the features page.

FAQ

How long should a page title be?

Short enough to read at a glance, with your name or brand first. Search engines don’t display a fixed number of characters, since it depends on the device and the width of the text. BioFlow allows up to 120 characters, but you’ll rarely need that many. Its Page Audit warns you if your title seems too short or long.

Does Google always use my description?

No. Google says that snippets come primarily from page content, and that it uses the meta description only sometimes. Write one anyway, because it can help when it’s used, and because some sharing cards show it. Also make sure your page’s visible text is clear, since Google may draw from it instead.

What should my title say?

Your name or brand, plus what you do, and perhaps where. “Asha Rao, Wedding Photographer in Pune” is a good model. It tells people they’ve found the right page and what they’ll get. Avoid generic titles such as “My links”, and don’t pack in keywords, which makes it less useful to readers.

Write both lines now

Copy the closest template above, and swap in your own details. Read it aloud once, then save and run the audit. You can write yours in BioFlow settings, and it should only take a few minutes.

Write your two lines

Add your page title and description in BioFlow, then run the Page Audit.
