How to Find the Link in Bio on Instagram and TikTok
Someone told you to check “the link in bio”, and now you can’t find it. Here is how to find the link in bio on the main apps: go to that person’s profile by tapping their name, then look for a web address near their description. The link isn’t in the post itself. That’s the whole trick, though each app handles it a little differently.
The quick steps
App layouts change, so the exact look may differ from what’s described here.
On Instagram
- On the post or Reel, tap the person’s username.
- On their profile, look under the description for a link, usually shown in a different colour from the rest of the text.
- Tap it. If there’s a list of links, choose the one you’re after.
On TikTok
- On the video, tap the creator’s name or profile picture.
- Look under the bio for a link.
- Tap it to open.
Not every TikTok account has a website link, so you may not see one.
On YouTube Shorts
- On the Short, tap the channel name.
- On the channel page, open the description or “more” area to see its links.
YouTube says that links in Shorts descriptions and comments aren’t clickable, which is why creators send you to their channel profile.
Why tapping the profile picture opens Stories
On Instagram, if someone has an active Story, tapping their profile picture can play it instead of opening their profile. If that happens, tap their username instead. You can also close the Story and go to the profile from there.
When you can’t see a link
There are a few possible reasons:
- The account hasn’t added one, or has recently removed it.
- The caption is out of date. An older post may mention a link that’s since changed.
- You’re on the wrong account. Check the spelling, as similar names are common.
- The account is private. Some details may be hidden until you follow it.
- Your app needs updating. Try updating and reopening it.
- It’s in the wrong place. The person may have typed the address into their description, where it can’t be tapped. You can copy it and paste it into your browser.
Still stuck? Check the comments, or send the person a message. Many accounts also send links directly by DM, as described in comment-to-DM compared with a bio link.
What a page of several links means
Sometimes tapping the link opens a simple page with a photo and a stack of buttons. This is normal. Many people use a single link in bio page to share several things at once. Look for the button that matches what the post promised. If it isn’t there, the page may have changed since the post went up.
Staying safe when you tap
Most bio links are harmless, but it’s worth being a little careful.
- Look at the web address, and check that it belongs to who you’d expect.
- Don’t log in on a page you didn’t expect to see. If you need your account, open the app or the official site yourself.
- Be wary of surprise prizes, urgent warnings and investment offers.

FAQ
Where is the link in bio on Instagram?
It’s on the person’s profile, near their description, not in the post. Tap their username on the post to open their profile, then look for a link under the description. If several are listed, choose the one that matches what you’re looking for.
Why can’t I find the link?
The account may not have one, or the post may be out of date. You might also be on a similarly named account, or the address may be typed into the description, where it can’t be tapped. Check the spelling of the username, and copy the address into your browser if necessary.
Is the link in the post or the profile?
Usually the profile. That’s why people say “link in bio”: on apps like Instagram and TikTok, a link in a normal caption generally isn’t clickable. The caption points you to the profile, where the working link is kept.
