How to Create a Link in Bio Page: A Complete Walkthrough

Here’s how to create a link in bio: choose one main goal, pick a username, add your name and a short bio, choose a theme, add the links and blocks you need, check the page on your phone, publish it and put its address in your social profile. You can build a simple page in well under an hour, and most of that time goes on deciding what to include, not on the setup.

This walkthrough uses BioFlow, CommentLink’s link in bio builder, which appears as Link in Bio in the dashboard. You don’t need to connect Instagram or any other account to create and publish a page. The planning advice applies to any tool. If you’re still working out what a link in bio is, start there.

Before you start: one goal

The hardest part of learning how to create a link in bio is deciding what it’s for, so spend five minutes on this before you open any editor. Answer the question: what’s the one thing I most want a visitor to do?

It could be booking a call, sending an enquiry, downloading a guide or visiting your shop. That answer goes at the top of your page.

Then gather what you’ll need:

  • A profile photo or logo.
  • A one or two line description of what you do.
  • The web addresses of everything you plan to link to.
  • For a download, the file itself (a PDF up to 10 MB, or a JPEG, PNG or WEBP image up to 2 MB).
  • Your WhatsApp number, if you’ll use a chat button.

To help you decide which links deserve the top spot, or to borrow a layout, see these sample page blueprints.

Step 1: Open the setup

Log in and open Link in Bio in the sidebar. It’s currently labelled Beta, so if a screen looks slightly different from this guide, follow what you see. Choose Create My BioFlow to follow the guided setup. There’s also a Quick create draft option if you’d prefer to go straight to a draft and build it yourself.

The guided setup walks you through your profile, then the look of your page, then your content, and ends with a launch checklist. Your draft is created when you continue from the profile step, so you can come back to it later.

Step 2: Add your name, username and bio

Name. Use the name people know you by, the same as on your social profiles.

Username. This forms your page’s address: commentlink.co/@yourname. Availability is checked for you, and some reserved words can’t be used. Match your social handle if you can, and keep it short and easy to say.

Choose carefully. You can change the username later, but the old address stops working, with no redirect. Any links in old posts and any QR codes you’ve printed would break.

Bio. Write one or two plain lines: what you do and who it’s for. “Helping first-time founders price their services” does more than a list of titles.

Step 3: Choose a theme

Pick a starting look. There are ten themes, such as Clean Minimal, Creator Blue, Bold Creator, Dark Professional and Editorial. Don’t overthink this: you can change it at any time, and you can adjust colours and buttons later.

Afterwards, in the page’s appearance settings, you can choose a header layout (Classic, Hero, Banner or Shape), a profile image shape, brand colours, a button radius and one of four fonts. A built-in contrast check warns you about colours that may be hard to read. Readability comes first, so see how to design for the first screen for a short guide.

Step 4: Add your content

Now add your social profiles and your blocks. These are the blocks available as you build:

Block Use it for
Link Any button, such as a shop, booking page or payment page on another service
Header Short section titles
Text Hours, a short introduction, a price list
Divider Space between sections
Image gallery Your work or products, in a grid or slider
YouTube, Spotify and Maps cards Branded link cards that open the video, music or location
Form Enquiries: email, plus optional name, phone and message fields
File downloads A file or external resource, with or without requiring an email
Messaging A WhatsApp button with an optional pre-filled message

Some important details:

  • Cards link out. YouTube, Spotify and Maps cards open the content elsewhere and don’t play or display it on your page.
  • Outside services stay outside. BioFlow doesn’t take payments or manage calendars. A button simply sends the visitor to the service you use.
  • Keep labels specific. “Book a free 20-minute call” beats “Book”.

Add your main goal first, then a backup option, and then anything else. You can add up to 40 blocks, but you’ll almost certainly want far fewer. You can reorder them, or turn one off without deleting it.

If you’re adding a Form or File downloads block, write a helpful success message. Every Form submission needs an email address, and that field can’t be switched off. You can also add a consent checkbox to a form, and optional tags to help sort your leads later.

Step 5: Set your title and description

Before you publish, fill in your page title and description. They shape how your page appears in search results and when your link is shared in a chat.

  • Page title: your name and what you do, such as “Meera Shah | Career Coach in Pune”.
  • Description: a sentence on who you help and what’s on the page.
  • Sharing image: optional, up to 2 MB, used in link previews.

These settings help people recognise your page, particularly when they search for your name. They won’t make it rank for broad searches. If you’d prefer that search engines skip the page altogether, there’s a setting for that too.

Step 6: Check with the Page Audit

Save your page, then run the Page Audit. It checks your last saved version for common problems, including a missing bio, links with invalid or duplicate addresses, placeholder text, and page titles or descriptions of unhelpful lengths. Fix anything that’s relevant, and ignore what isn’t.

Then do what no automated check can do. On your phone:

  1. Open the preview and see what’s visible before you scroll.
  2. Read each label as if you’d never heard of yourself.
  3. Tap through and test each link after publishing.
  4. Submit your own form and claim your own download.

Step 7: Publish

The last step of the guided setup shows a launch checklist covering your profile name, username, theme and content. From there, you can publish or save as a draft. You need at least one enabled Link block with a title and address before you can publish, so a page with only a form or a download can’t go live yet.

Your page is then live at commentlink.co/@yourname. You can unpublish it whenever you like, and the public address will stop showing the page until you publish again.

Step 8: Add it to your profile

Copy your page’s address and paste it into the website or link field of each social profile. Paste it into the profile’s dedicated link field rather than into the bio text, which usually won’t become a clickable link. Menus differ by platform and change over time, so follow your app’s current options.

If you’d like to know which platform sends visitors, use a separate tagged link for each one. Our guide to sharing one page across platforms explains how. You can also download a QR code for print materials, but remember it depends on the page’s address staying the same.

Finally, test it the way a visitor would: from a recent post, to your profile, to the link, to the page.

What to do in week one

  • Day 1: Mention the page in a post or Story, with a specific reason to visit. These link in bio captions can help.
  • Day 2: Update the last line of your bio using these Instagram bio call to action lines.
  • Day 3: Check the Leads inbox, and reply to anything that’s arrived.
  • Day 7: Open your analytics and look at views, Link CTR and top-performing links. Our guide to the numbers worth tracking explains what to do with them. Change one thing.

FAQ

How do I make a link in bio?

Decide on your main goal, then use a tool such as BioFlow to set up a page with your name, username, bio, theme and links. Check it on your phone, publish it, then paste its address into your social profile’s link field. If you only need one destination, you can skip the page and link to it directly.

Do I need to connect Instagram?

No. You can create and publish a BioFlow page without connecting Instagram or any other channel. You simply paste the page’s address into your profile yourself. You’d only connect Instagram if you also wanted to use CommentLink’s automation features.

How long does it take?

A simple page can take under an hour, including writing your labels and testing. It takes longer if you’re creating a lead magnet, or gathering images. It’s better to publish a short, working page and improve it than to wait until everything feels perfect.

Publish your first version

Your first version doesn’t have to be your final one. Three clear blocks and a working link are enough to begin learning what your visitors want. Create your BioFlow page when you’re ready, and see what else CommentLink does if you’d like to automate comment replies too. Creators can find more for creators here.
