ManyChat vs CommentLink: What the Feature Table Leaves Out

Balanced visual comparison of Instagram automation capabilities between ManyChat and CommentLink

Start with the compact grid: CommentLink vs ManyChat. That page is the primary comparison. This article is the longer explanation — channels, Active Contacts, comment-to-DM, and who should stay. ManyChat can do comment-to-DM. If a page told you otherwise, it was selling. Pricing notes are dated 20 August 2026 from ManyChat help; confirm manychat.com/pricing before you decide.

ManyChat is a large automation platform with Instagram plus other channels. CommentLink is an official-API workspace for Instagram and WhatsApp, with comment-triggered DMs as the centre of gravity and no contact meter on our side. They are not substitutes for every job. Read the table first, then this essay if you still need the why.

What each product actually is

ManyChat is built as a flow builder across channels. Public positioning includes Instagram automations (including comment-to-DM style journeys), Messenger, SMS, email, live chat, and more — TikTok and Telegram appear in that wider suite depending on the current product matrix. You pay, on the public 2 March 2026 pricing model, in active contacts. As of 20 August 2026, manychat.com/pricing listed Free at 25 Active Contacts and Essential from $14/month with 250 included. WhatsApp and seats have been plan-gated on that public grid. Verify live numbers; they move.

CommentLink is Instagram Professional accounts plus WhatsApp Business numbers in one login: comment-to-DM, public reply plus DM, follow-gate after an I’m following tap then is_user_follow_business, a safety queue around 200 Instagram DMs/hour, Story reply/mention, upcoming posts, email/phone collect nodes, welcome openers, and a shared inbox. CommentLink does not charge for Instagram comment-to-DM. Meta still enforces rate limits. WhatsApp conversation fees are Meta’s, billed to your WABA. We do not resell them.

Where ManyChat wins

  • Omnichannel: if the customer journey leaves Instagram for SMS, email, TikTok, Telegram, or a website widget, ManyChat is the grown-up choice.
  • Existing flows: if the team already lives in ManyChat’s canvas and template ecosystem, a rip-and-replace costs more than a contact bill.
  • Agencies standardised on ManyChat across clients who are not Instagram-first.
  • Breadth of integrations and marketplace you will not find in a two-channel workspace.

If Instagram is one spoke on a wheel, stay on ManyChat unless the contact meter is the actual pain. CommentLink will not grow a fake TikTok channel to win a comparison table.

Where CommentLink wins

  • Unmetered Instagram + WhatsApp on our invoice. No 25-contact ceiling, no CommentLink DM credits.
  • Comment-to-DM setup that is a post, a match rule, a message — not a marketing cloud.
  • Public comment reply and private DM on one rule; follow-gate with a named Meta field after tap.
  • Queue when the hourly Instagram cap is hit, instead of hoping native drop is “fine.”
  • WhatsApp in the same inbox without a CommentLink channel upsell (Meta’s WA fees still exist).

Both products use official Meta login for Instagram. Neither should ask for the Instagram password. If a “ManyChat vs” listicle compares CommentLink to a browser bot, ignore the listicle.

Comment-to-DM, specifically

ManyChat’s Instagram automations can watch comments and continue in DMs. That is real. CommentLink’s version is the product’s default job: exact/contains/exclude/mention-only/catch-all, Reels, optional public reply, optional gate, optional collect. Native Business Suite Custom Keywords remain the free first step for one keyword and low volume — see native vs CommentLink.

You cannot import ManyChat flows into CommentLink. Recreate keywords and copy. Connect Instagram again via Meta. Do not share passwords with the intern to “speed up migration.”

Pricing honesty (August 2026)

ManyChat Free: 25 Active Contacts on the public 2 March 2026 model. Paid from about $14/month on public August 2026 notes, with contact tiers above that. WhatsApp and extra seats: check the current grid — they have been gated. Source of truth: manychat.com/pricing.

CommentLink: no card, no contact meter, no DM pack. Instagram automated sends still sit under Meta’s hourly cap. WhatsApp conversation charges still sit on your Meta billing. That is the whole money story we will tell.

Who should not switch

Do not switch if you need SMS broadcasts, email journeys, or TikTok in the same canvas. Do not switch if ManyChat is already the system of record and Instagram comment-to-DM is a side quest. Do switch if the invoice is active contacts and the daily work is Instagram comments plus a WhatsApp number. The FAQs for “is this allowed” and Professional accounts still apply to both vendors.

Active contacts, in plain language

ManyChat’s public 2 March 2026 model bills on Active Contacts. Free was 25. Paid tiers start around $14/month in public August 2026 notes, then climb as the contact count climbs. An Active Contact is not “someone who exists in the universe”; it is ManyChat’s metered unit — confirm the current definition on manychat.com/pricing because vendors redefine it. The practical effect for Instagram comment-to-DM is: a Reel that produces hundreds of new conversations is a billing event on ManyChat and a queue event on CommentLink. CommentLink still cannot send faster than Instagram’s hour.

Twenty-five contacts is enough to test a flow. It is not a shop’s launch. If you are on ManyChat Free to “see if comment-to-DM works,” you will learn the feature and then hit the meter. That is a valid test. It is a poor production plan for a viral Reel.

WhatsApp on each side

ManyChat can include WhatsApp; public August 2026 pricing has treated it as plan-gated. CommentLink includes WhatsApp in the same workspace after Embedded Signup, with no CommentLink channel upsell. Both still pay Meta conversation fees on the WABA. If WhatsApp is the centre of the business and Instagram is a side door, ManyChat’s broader canvas may still win. If Instagram comments are the centre and WhatsApp is the same team’s second inbox, CommentLink is the simpler bill.

Follow-gate, queue, and public replies

Confirm ManyChat’s current Instagram conditions for follow checks on their docs — this article will not reverse-engineer a competitor’s private implementation. CommentLink’s gate is named: tap I’m following, then is_user_follow_business. Public comment reply plus private DM is a CommentLink default job. Queue versus native drop is documented in 2026 competitor explainers of Business Suite; ManyChat still lives under the same Instagram hourly cap as everyone else.

Migration without a fairy tale

  1. Keep ManyChat running until the first CommentLink post is tested. You do not need to cancel first.
  2. Connect Instagram with Meta login. Recreate keywords. There is no flow import.
  3. Turn on one post. Compare a test comment. Then move the rest.
  4. Connect WhatsApp only when the team is ready to staff one inbox.
  5. Export whatever ManyChat lets you export if you need the contact list elsewhere. Do not scrape.

The alternative lander for Instagram-shaped teams is ManyChat alternative. The table is the vs page. This post is the honest essay; those pages are the scannable version.

ManyChat’s flow builder is the reason agencies stay. CommentLink’s comment automation is a form: media, match, messages, on. If your team’s skill is canvas-building across SMS and email, you will feel cramped here. If your team’s skill is “this Reel needs a keyword by Friday,” you will feel overserved there. Neither feeling is a moral failure.

FAQ

Can ManyChat do Instagram comment-to-DM?

Yes. Treat any article that says only CommentLink can as marketing. Compare matching, queue, follow-gate mechanics, WhatsApp billing, and contact meters.

Is CommentLink a ManyChat clone?

No. We do not offer ManyChat’s channel list. We offer IG + WA on official APIs without metering those DMs ourselves.

Will I keep my ManyChat contact database?

Not automatically. There is no official flow import. Export what ManyChat lets you export; rebuild automations.

Does CommentLink undercut ManyChat on WhatsApp fees?

No. Meta bills your WhatsApp Business account. Hiding that would be the dishonest option.

Which should a shop with one Reel and a keyword use?

Try native Custom Keywords first. Then CommentLink if you need queue, public reply, or a follow check. ManyChat if that shop is already a ManyChat shop.

Does CommentLink import ManyChat flows?

No. Recreate keywords and copy after Meta login. Keep ManyChat live until the first CommentLink test comment succeeds so you do not go dark. Export contacts only through whatever ManyChat officially allows.

Is ManyChat unofficial for Instagram?

No. Public positioning is official Meta login, same family as CommentLink. The comparison is contacts, channels, and packaging — not “real API versus bot.” Password tools are a different SERP.

What if I need TikTok and Instagram in one canvas?

ManyChat is the better fit. CommentLink will not invent a TikTok channel to win a table. Stay where the rest of the journey already lives. If Instagram comments are the only remaining ManyChat use, that is the moment the contact meter starts to feel like the product.
