LinkDM vs CommentLink: What the Feature Table Leaves Out
Start with the compact grid: CommentLink vs LinkDM. That page is the primary comparison. This article is the longer explanation — focused link delivery versus a fuller workspace, and who should stay. LinkDM is a focused link-in-DM product: someone comments, they get the URL privately. CommentLink does that job and also runs a shared inbox, WhatsApp, follow-gates, public replies, lead capture, and a queue.
If you only need simple Instagram link delivery and you like LinkDM’s UI, staying can be rational. Public August 2026 notes put Free around 1,000 DMs and Pro around $19/month — verify on LinkDM’s site. This article will not invent extra LinkDM features (no fake WhatsApp, no fake team inbox).
The job both tools share
Instagram hides most links in captions. The workaround is send the link when someone comments. Both LinkDM and CommentLink sit on official Meta APIs for that. Both need a Professional account. Both should use Meta login, not a password. Native Custom Keywords also send a link in a DM if you only have one keyword and low volume.
Where LinkDM is the better fit
- The only outcome you care about is “comment → URL in DM.”
- You want a specialised link-delivery UI and you do not want an inbox product.
- Story automation matters to you and you already verified that flow on LinkDM (our vs page marks Story automation as something they have).
- A 1,000 DM free cap is enough, or $19/month Pro is cheaper than changing tools.
Focused tools are easier to learn. A workspace with WhatsApp broadcasts and departments is wasted if nobody will open those screens.
Where CommentLink is the better fit
- You outgrow a 1,000 DM free ceiling and do not want a send pack as the business model. Instagram’s hourly cap still exists; we queue it.
- You need WhatsApp in the same product. LinkDM’s public August 2026 notes: not supported. Do not claim otherwise.
- You need a public comment reply without a Pro-only gate on our side (vs page: public comment reply listed as Pro only on LinkDM’s public grid — verify).
- You need a shared team inbox, notes, assign. Vs page: not offered on LinkDM’s public grid — verify.
- You run more than one Professional account in one login. Vs page: 1 account on LinkDM free — verify.
Link delivery quality, not just caps
The DM should name the destination, disclose affiliates, and survive Message Requests. CommentLink does not cloak URLs. Matching can be exact, contains, exclude, mention-only, or catch-all. Follow-gate is tap then Meta follow field. Those are workflow details, not a claim that LinkDM “cannot send a link.” They can. The question is what else you need when the link is sent.
Affiliate-safe copy belongs in affiliate links in comment-to-DM regardless of vendor.
Pricing (August 2026, verify)
LinkDM: about 1,000 DMs on Free (1 account in our public notes), Pro about $19/month. CommentLink: no CommentLink invoice for those DMs. Meta rate limits apply to both. Native Business Suite: $0 SaaS, drop at cap as described in 2026 explainers.
When not to switch
If LinkDM already delivers your only link and you are under their cap, switching is choreography. If you are about to buy Pro solely for public replies, a second account, or volume, compare that invoice to a workspace that includes those pieces. Recreate automations by hand; there is no official import.
What “link delivery” includes on each side
On LinkDM, the product story is the URL in the DM: comment, receive the destination, optionally Story automation (our vs page marks Story automation as something they have). Public comment replies, extra accounts, and branding removal have been described as Pro or paid on the public August 2026 grid — verify. On CommentLink, the URL is one node in a workspace: matching rules, optional public reply, optional follow-gate, optional email/phone collect, queue, inbox, WhatsApp. If you will never open those screens, you are paying attention cost for features you do not want.
Story booking on CommentLink is a STORY_REPLY automation with a calendar URL — booking links from Instagram Story replies. Do not assume LinkDM’s Story feature is the same as a full inbox. Check their current docs for what a Story reply actually sends.
Free 1,000 DMs as a planning number
A thousand DMs is a real month for a small shop and a short morning for a Reel that travels. If you already know the launch will exceed that, you are choosing Pro (~$19/month in public August 2026 notes) or a workspace that does not sell the pack. Instagram’s hourly cap still applies in both cases. CommentLink’s difference is not “faster than Meta”; it is “we do not invoice the overflow, we queue it.”
Branding and team
Paid-to-remove branding on DMs, if still true on LinkDM’s site, is a product choice. CommentLink does not put a CommentLink pitch in your customer DM as a free-plan tax — there is no CommentLink paid plan to escape. Shared team inbox is listed as not offered on LinkDM’s public grid in our vs notes; CommentLink’s inbox is assign, notes, open/close. If you are a solo creator, inbox seats may not matter. If two people answer DMs, password-sharing is worse than either vendor’s UI.
How to trial without wrecking the live post
- Leave LinkDM on the live post until a quiet test post on CommentLink sends.
- Connect with Meta login. Rebuild the keyword and URL. Disclose affiliates the same way you do today.
- Comment from a second account. Check Message Requests.
- Only then move the live media. Two official tools on one post can double-DM.
When a focused tool is the grown-up choice
Agencies sometimes over-buy workspaces. If the creator only ever sends one URL, LinkDM’s job is the job. Paying attention to WhatsApp broadcasts and departments you will never open is not sophistication. Stay until the free 1,000 (public August 2026 — verify) or the Pro invoice is the actual pain.
The pain usually arrives as: a second account, a public reply you do not want to pay-gate, a team that needs notes, or a Reel that burns the free cap before lunch. Those are CommentLink-shaped problems. They are not a claim that LinkDM failed at links. LinkDM’s public story is link delivery, including Story automation as marked on our vs page. Confirm Story behaviour on their site if that is why you hired them.
Affiliate operators should care more about disclosure and the real href than about which vendor sent it. CommentLink will not cloak. If LinkDM also sends the URL you paste, the policy work is identical. See the affiliate article rather than treating vendor choice as a compliance strategy.
Cutover rule: one official sender per media. Rebuild the keyword. Test. Then disable the old automation. Password bots are still out of scope. Native Custom Keywords are still the control group for tiny volume.
FAQ
Is LinkDM unofficial?
Public positioning is official APIs. This comparison assumes that. Password tools are out of scope.
Does CommentLink only send links?
No. Link delivery is the common job. Inbox, WhatsApp, gates, collect, and queue are why the products diverge.
Can I use native Instagram instead of either?
Yes, for one keyword and modest volume. Read the native vs CommentLink article before you pay anyone.
Do you have a LinkDM import?
No. Reconnect with Meta login and rebuild the keyword plus URL.
Why is this article not titled “CommentLink vs LinkDM”?
That H1 belongs to the lander. This post is the longer, dated comparison for people still deciding what “link delivery” includes.
Does LinkDM support WhatsApp?
Public August 2026 notes on our vs page say not supported. Confirm on LinkDM’s site. CommentLink includes WhatsApp as a separate connected channel, never as comment-to-WhatsApp.
Is 1,000 free DMs enough?
For a small shop, often. For a Reel that travels, often not. That number is from public August 2026 notes — verify. Instagram’s hour still caps both tools regardless of vendor packs.
Can I run LinkDM and CommentLink on the same post?
You can technically connect both. You should not. Two private replies to one comment is how you look broken. Trial on a quiet post, then cut over. Rebuild the keyword and the URL by hand; there is no official import either direction.
Does CommentLink meter LinkDM-style packs?
No CommentLink DM pack. Instagram still paces about 200 automated DMs per hour per account in the safety queue. LinkDM’s public August 2026 free cap was about 1,000 DMs — verify on their site before you plan a launch around it.
Should tiny shops start on native instead of LinkDM?
Yes, if one keyword and low volume is the whole job. Native Custom Keywords remain free of a SaaS invoice. LinkDM and CommentLink both sit on top of that path.
