Multi-Account Instagram Automation
Multiple Instagram accounts automation is an operations problem: one person or agency needs comment-to-DM on more than one Professional profile, maybe with WhatsApp numbers beside them, without taping passwords to a monitor. In CommentLink you connect several Instagram Professional accounts and WhatsApp numbers in one login and run separate automations per brand. This article will not claim an unlimited account ceiling we have not documented as a hard SLA. Operators can connect multiple professional accounts in one workspace.
What “one login” means
Your CommentLink user signs in once. Each Instagram connection is a Meta OAuth grant for a Professional account linked to a Facebook Page. Each WhatsApp connection is Embedded Signup for a number you control. Automations, keywords, and inboxes are scoped to those channels. Teammates get roles in the workspace rather than the IG password. If you need a client fully isolated, use a workspace pattern your team actually follows — do not mix rival shops in a way you cannot explain in an audit.
Who this is for
- Shops with a main profile and a jobs or outlet profile.
- Creators with a personal brand and a product line account — both Professional.
- Agencies running comment-to-DM for several clients who consented to convert and connect.
- Teams that also hold a WhatsApp number per brand in the shared inbox.
How to connect without making a mess
- Convert every profile you intend to automate. Personal accounts still cannot AutoDM — why personal accounts cannot use AutoDM.
- In Meta, give the connecting admin access to each Page/IG pair.
- Connect account A. Build its comment automation. Test with a second profile.
- Connect account B. Do not copy keywords blindly if the brands differ.
- Invite staff with least privilege. Department routing if one team should only see one brand’s queue.
- Name automations with the brand in the title so nobody toggles the wrong Reel.
Rate limits are per Instagram account
The safety queue paces about 200 Instagram DMs per hour per account. Two brands do not share one hour. They also do not donate quota to each other. A viral Reel on brand A will not pause brand B. Native drop-at-cap is still native, per account. Details: viral Reel DM queue.
What not to do
- Share client Instagram passwords with contractors.
- Connect a personal profile “just to try.” Meta will refuse official messaging.
- Run the same catch-all giveaway on every client account as if audiences were interchangeable.
- Claim CommentLink is a Meta partner managing accounts for you.
- Promise unlimited accounts, unlimited DMs, or unlimited WhatsApp throughput. Meta and practical ops both say otherwise.
Agency workflow
Scope of work should say: we connect via Meta login, we do not take the password, we will convert to Professional if needed, we will staff the inbox during launches. Recreate automations; there is no magical import from ManyChat or ReplyRush. If the client already uses native Custom Keywords, decide who owns the keyword so two systems do not double-DM. Comparison context: how to choose an Instagram AutoDM stack.
Offboarding a client without leaving tokens behind
When the contract ends: turn automations off, disconnect the Instagram and WhatsApp channels, remove their staff from the workspace, and confirm in Meta that the app grant is gone if you are no longer their partner. Leaving a live comment-to-DM on a client you do not staff is how surprise DMs go out with your old copy. Do not keep the password; you should never have had it.
Naming so the wrong Reel never toggles
Put the brand handle in the automation title. Put the media id or post date in the notes. Two clients named “SHOP keyword” is how you pause the wrong launch. Upcoming post rules should be named even more carefully because they fire on publish, not on a media you are staring at.
Per-account physics
Each Professional account has its own hourly Instagram cap and its own token. A viral Reel on client A does not steal client B’s hour. It also does not donate quota. WhatsApp numbers have their own Cloud API limits and quality ratings. Do not “load balance” by connecting a second unofficial IG. If you need more throughput, you need more legitimate Professional accounts the client owns — and you still respect each cap.
Agencies versus in-house multi-brand
In-house: one company, several handles, same legal entity, easier Page admin story. Agency: several legal entities, consent to convert, separate Pages, least privilege so client C cannot see client D. If you cannot explain the admin graph, do not connect yet. Native Custom Keywords can still run on a client who refuses a vendor; do not fight them with a password bot.
A connection checklist per brand
For each Instagram: Professional, Page you admin, Meta login lists the handle, test comment from a second profile, automation named with the brand. For each WhatsApp: number you control, Embedded Signup, templates approved before anyone broadcasts, quality watched.
Invite only the people who will answer that brand. Department-route if one workspace holds several. When a contractor leaves, remove the seat the same day. When a client leaves, disconnect the channel, not just “pause in your head.”
Do not promise unlimited accounts. Operators can connect multiple professional accounts in one workspace. If the product later shows a practical limit, believe the product. Do not promise unlimited DMs. Each account still has an hour.
If two brands launch the same afternoon, both queues run. Staff both inboxes. A single intern with two filters is a plan; a single intern with two Instagram passwords is not. This is operations, not a growth hack.
Before you add the fifth account, write down who owns OAuth, who owns the inbox at launch, and how you offboard. Agencies skip that document and then inherit a live automation on a client they no longer bill. In-house teams skip it and then the only admin leaves. Multiple Professional accounts in one login is the feature. Unlimited is not a claim this article will make.
What we will not promise agencies
We will not promise unlimited Professional accounts, unlimited DMs, or a Meta partnership. We will not take Instagram passwords. We will not import ManyChat or ReplyRush flows. We will not turn comments into WhatsApp broadcasts.
We will let operators connect multiple Professional accounts and WhatsApp numbers in one login, run separate automations, and staff a shared inbox with roles. That is the product. Write the offboarding steps before the fifth brand goes live. Native Custom Keywords remain available for any client who wants zero vendors on a quiet post. Unlimited accounts, unlimited DMs, and comment-to-WhatsApp are not promises we will add to an agency deck.
FAQ
Is there a hard cap on how many IG accounts I can connect?
This article will not invent a number. You can connect multiple Professional accounts in one workspace. If a practical limit appears in-product, believe the product.
Can two people connect the same Instagram to two CommentLink logins?
Treat OAuth grants as something to keep tidy. One operational workspace per brand is saner than a tug-of-war.
Do WhatsApp numbers count separately?
Yes. Each number is its own Cloud API connection and fee account. Comments still never auto-send on WhatsApp.
Can I duplicate an automation across accounts?
Rebuild or copy the copy by hand. Confirm each media id is the right post.
Is this allowed?
Official APIs on Professional accounts you are authorised to manage. Not a bot farm of aged personal profiles.
Can two agencies connect the same client IG?
OAuth grants get messy. One operational workspace per brand is saner. Offboard the previous partner: automations off, disconnect, remove seats.
Do two brands share the 200 DM hour?
No. The safety queue paces per Instagram account. They also cannot donate quota to each other. WhatsApp numbers are separate again.
What if a client refuses to convert to Professional?
Then official AutoDM is not available — not in CommentLink, not in native Custom Keywords. Do not “solve” that with a password. Wait or decline the work.
What should an agency put in the contract?
Meta login, no password, Professional conversion if needed, who staffs the inbox at launch, and how disconnect works when the contract ends. Do not promise unlimited accounts or unlimited DMs. Native Custom Keywords remain available for quiet posts. CommentLink will not take the Instagram password or turn comments into WhatsApp broadcasts. Operators can connect multiple professional accounts in one workspace; that is the whole claim. Rate limits stay per Instagram account. Offboard tokens when a client leaves. Two brands do not share one hourly cap and cannot donate quota to each other. Staff both inboxes if both launch the same afternoon. Name automations with the brand so nobody toggles the wrong Reel. Upcoming post rules need even clearer names before they fire.
