How to Qualify Leads from Instagram Comments

Lead magnets already cover “comment GUIDE, get the PDF.” This article is how to qualify Instagram leads from comments when the next step is a sale, a call, or a custom quote — not a file. Existing list-building pieces: collect emails from Instagram comments and comment GUIDE, gate email, send the PDF. Stay here for intent, not list growth.

Qualify without a 12-step bot: teach different keywords, send a short first DM that confirms the ask, ask one fit question if you need it, and hand the thread to a human when the answer is custom. The questions themselves live in what to ask before sending a sales link. How to wire nodes lives in lead qualification flow. This page is the comment-side filter.

Keywords are the first filter

If everyone comments YES, you have a list, not a pipeline. Split purchase-shaped words from research-shaped words. Companion: intent keywords: purchase vs research.

Dental clinic in Mumbai. GUIDE = oral-care PDF. BOOK = scheduler for cleaning. PRICE = published fee sheet. Do not teach one YES that dumps Calendly on people who wanted flossing tips. The comment is the qualification if you taught it that way.

Coaching Reel. NOTES = syllabus PDF. FEES = current page. MENTOR = human for custom 1:1. Mixing FEES into NOTES is how you make browsers feel sold and buyers feel underserved.

Comments that already tell you the job

Real estate walkthrough. “PRICE for the 2BHK in Whitefield” is not GUIDE. First DM: floor plan or rate card you publish. If they add “need a resale quote this week,” that is no longer a PDF — tag high-ticket and stop automating.

Salon Reel of a colour correction. Comment: BOOK. First DM: booking link for colour. Comment: PRICE. First DM: starting rates. Comment: “the last salon burned my hair, I want a refund consult” — that is not BOOK. Human. Do not send the Saturday promo.

SaaS demo clip. Comment: DEMO. First DM: calendar for the public demo. Comment: “procurement needs a DPA” — human. The keyword DEMO already filtered tourists who commented 🔥.

One honest DM question when the keyword is not enough

Some captions only teach one word. Then the DM has to split browsers from buyers. Ask one thing that changes routing: city, timeline, seats, wholesale versus retail. Do not hide a sales call behind a fake freebie.

  • Local service: “Which city should I check availability for?”
  • Cohort: “Yourself or a team, and is this for the next 30 days?”
  • Shop: “Size/restock, or a wholesale sheet?”

If they never answer, they still need whatever you promised in the caption. Put that in message one. The question is extra, not a hostage. One private reply per comment still applies.

Building the comment-side qualify path

  1. List the jobs on this account: file, published price, booking, custom quote, complaint.
  2. Give each job a keyword you will say on camera.
  3. Map GUIDE → send file. PRICE → public sheet. BOOK → scheduler. HUMAN/ISSUE → handoff.
  4. Add at most one DM question on the sales keywords.
  5. Tag intent (browser / buyer / complaint) so the inbox is not a river.
  6. Test with a second account: comment GUIDE, comment PRICE, type a novel. Confirm three different outcomes.

Mistakes that dump a sales link on everyone

  • One YES keyword for a PDF and a ₹2L programme. Instead: NOTES versus MENTOR.
  • Scraping emails out of comment text. Instead: collect_email after they reply, or a form URL they choose.
  • Opening WhatsApp because they commented. Instead: Instagram until they write WhatsApp. Comments are not a WA opt-in.
  • Asking six questions before any asset. Instead: promised thing first.
  • Looping AI on custom quotes. Instead: human-handoff. CommentLink’s ai_reply is not a closer.
  • Treating 🔥 as purchase intent. Instead: ignore or a public thank-you — no private pitch.

Copyable intent map

GUIDE / NOTES / MENU / LOOK → file or published page in message one. Tag: browser.

PRICE / FEES / RATE → public sheet. Tag: price-shopper. Hand off only if they ask for a number you do not publish.

BOOK / DEMO / TIX → scheduler or ticketing URL. Tag: booking.

CALL / HUMAN / ISSUE / REFUND → last line + human-handoff. Tag: sales or complaint. No second pitch.

Should every commenter get the sales link? No. Browsers can get a guide. Buyers can get a booking link after a fit check.

What this is not

It is not scraping emails out of comment text. It is not opening WhatsApp because they commented. Instagram comments stay on Instagram until a person chooses another channel. It is not Meta Business Agent, Click-to-Direct ads, or a native CRM. Tags and collect_email/phone exist; HubSpot-style sync does not — see sync Instagram DM leads into a CRM for honest boundaries.

CommentLink cannot score leads with a magic model that knows a ₹20L custom job from a PDF request unless you wrote the keywords and conditions. The product runs the map you built.

When qualification should stop and a person should start

If the answer is messy, custom, angry, or they asked for a person, stop. Criteria for who is sales-ready: sales handoff criteria. The stop workflow: human handoff workflow. Do not keep qualifying a refund thread.

Staff the inbox in the hours you named. A perfect keyword map into an empty queue is still a missed closer.

Restaurant, shop, and waitlist comments that are not the same lead

Goa cafe. MENU = today’s PDF. TABLE = reservation link for parties you actually seat. CATERING = human, because a 80-plate sangeet is not a two-top. If everyone comments FOOD, you cannot tell those three jobs apart. Teach the three words on the same Reel if you must, or run three Reels.

D2C restock. RESTOCK = waitlist form in message one. WHOLESALE = MOQ sheet plus a human if they name a quantity you do not publish. LINK on a lifestyle Reel should not dump wholesale. The comment is the filter only if the caption taught the filter.

Tag at send: browser, price-shopper, booking, wholesale, complaint. The inbox filter is how a closer skips MENU. CommentLink tags are not a CRM score. They are labels you wrote. If you will not look at tags, do not collect them.

A fire emoji, a tagged friend, and “nice video” are not purchase intent. Leave them public. A private pitch on those comments is how you train people to stop engaging — and it is closer to unsolicited than to qualification.

FAQ

How do I qualify Instagram comment leads?

Use intent keywords, one honest DM question, and a human for messy answers. Do not hide a sales call behind a fake freebie.

Should every commenter get the sales link?

No. Browsers can get a guide. Buyers can get a booking link after a fit check. Teach different keywords when you can.

Is commenting YES a good qualifier?

Usually no. YES is a list. PRICE, BOOK, and GUIDE are jobs. Split them.

Can CommentLink scrape emails from comments?

No. Use collect_email after they reply, or send a form URL. Do not harvest addresses out of public comment text as a feature.

Does a comment count as WhatsApp opt-in?

No. Comments stay on Instagram. WhatsApp starts when they write that number.

Where do I put the actual questions?

This page is the comment-side filter. The question list is the companion on what to ask before the sales link. The node graph is the qualification flow article.

Should I DM people who only left an emoji?

No. That is not a keyword you taught and it is not a sales-ready comment. Keep the private reply for MENU, PRICE, BOOK, and the words on the caption.
